Out with the old, in with the new!

This new website that you see here took two weekends to complete. The design of this website was based off an old portfolio design that I never used. On the first weekend, I tightened up the design of the old comp and encoded it in tableless CSS and valid XHTML. On the second weekend, I added my blog to the site. Adding the blog was the most difficult part. I first had to upgrade my Wordpress to 2.2.1. Then had to figure out how to fit the blog to the new design. In Google, I searched for “make your own wordpress template” and found this tutorial. It helped me out a lot, but it still took a bit of trial and error to get things right.

In the end, everything worked out, but there’s still some things to fix. I am pretty happy with the results though. A few new things that I learned and learned more of were microformats and print stylesheets (try print previewing this site).

holiday2006.jpg

I made this e-card tonight and spammed everyone that I knew. Haha. If you didn’t get it, please click here. It wasn’t that you weren’t special, but I guess you weren’t in my address book. Haha. Well, I hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas! :)

PowerMate

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

I couldn’t afford a Nulooq as it retails for a whopping $80! So, I went with the PowerMate instead.

It may not have as many functions as the Nulooq, but it’s pretty sweet too. There’s lots of 3rd party support for it, you can even program it to pulsate when you have new mail! I’m glad that I didn’t opt for the Nulooq because I honestly don’t use the PowerMate that much. I use it mainly to scroll long documents and websites instead of using page up/down. Maybe, I’ll use it for other things later, but this isn’t bad for only $20. That being said, I wouldn’t know if I’d buy another if it happens to break….

Intuos > Graphire

intuos_vs_graphire.jpg

From my previous post, I finally started using my tablet and am loving it! I liked it so much, that I requested for one at work too. I have an Intuos 4 6×8 at work. Comparing it to the Graphire 3 6×8 that I have at home, the Intuos kicks the Graphire’s ass! It’s so much more precise and accurate than the Graphire, plus on the Intuos’ pen, the button isn’t at an odd position like on the Graphire. I would recommend anyone who can afford it, to buy an Intuos over a Graphire. It’s so much better! It’s very true that you do get what you pay for!

The pen is mightier than the mouse!

pen_mouse.jpg

I had my Wacom Graphire 3 tablet since last year, but never used it much. Last month, my hand and wrist started hurting from too much scrolling on a 20″ Cinema display. To remedy the situation, I tried using my left hand to hold the mouse instead and other odd things. Nothing worked best like using the Wacom tablet. It cured my pain and improved my workflow! I recommend a tablet to all designers! It’s definitely better than the mouse. It might take some time to get use to, but it’s well worth it. Now, only if I can afford an Intuos tablet!
