I ran Wharf to Wharf, a 6 mile race from Santa Cruz to Capitola on 7/27. It was a fun race and there were a lot of people. I couldn’t run my own pace for the first 2 miles. I finished in a decent time though. I finished in 48:07, that’s a 8:01 pace which isn’t so bad. After the race though, my right hamstring felt iffy!!
For the next week, I took it pretty easy, and rested a lot and only went to the gym a couple of times. But, my leg still felt funny!
The following Sunday, was the big one, the San Francisco 1st Half Marathon. I woke up at 4am and made it to SF at 5am! And ran at 5:30! I didn’t even get a chance to stretch! I think that was a bad decision because boy, did I hurt after mile 10. I literally walked and stood there to rest a few times — I was cramping that much! OMG, this was probably the worst race ever! IT WAS HARD! It was hilly too! I guess that’s what happens when you don’t train. GOD!

Look at those awful times!! I was doing pretty good in the beginning too!

Signed up for Wharf to Wharf! Supposedly, it’s a race similar to Bay to Breakers, that should be fun!
There’s bad news though, my friend’s birthday is the day before the race, so I’ll probably have to leave her celebration early or not go at all. The race is at 8:30, so I think leave my house no later than 6. God, that’s too early!

Did a lot better than I thought. There was a lot of people, there was definitely a lot of dodging and avoiding crashing into other runners. The Hayes Hill wasn’t too bad either, not as bad as I imagined. It was pretty fun, but not sure if I’d wanna do it again.
It turned out that my Zone division didn’t matter much because they let anyone into the different zones. I snuck into the upper middle part… hehe. If I do, do it next year, I’ll have to bring my ID so that I can enjoy some beer afterwards!
As for schwag, it was okay. Got some cheese samples, won lip balm, a mini keychain flashlight, and a biker’s water bottle — not bad at all! At the packet pickup, I got a few 20% off coupons at Sports Basement too! It’s a very good time to pick up some new gear! Woo~

Just registered for Bay to Breakers! I signed up too late and am in Zone 2 (the back of the pack), but am not discouraged! I’m going to try to go to the race super early and line up in the front. I hope to finish in 1:05:00 which is a 8:43 pace. It’s not super fast, but it’s a challenge because it’s a big race and there will be a lot of people to pass. Plus, my coworker said you won’t be able to run race pace until after the big hill…

I’m pretty happy about my time, but think I could had done better if I had coffee prior to the race. It was still good nonetheless. I remembered for my first mile I was at 7:00 flat. Maybe I went out too fast? Not sure, but 30 out of 305 is pretty darn good IMHO.
